• MasterCard has a long-standing commitment with sports. Through its support for football, the company has had the opportunity to be linked to the passion and the appeal of this sport, which helps communicate the innovation and vitality of MasterCard.

MasterCard is the official card and preferred payment method of Copa America Argentina 2011, which is 9th consecutive Copa America tournament sponsored by MasterCard. As part of this agreement, the company acquired the exclusive rights of Copa America 2011Trophy Tour. The Trophy Tour began in December 2010 in the City of Buenos Aires (Argentina), with a press event where four renowned figures of the national team were present: Sergio Goycochea, Diego Simeone, Alfio Basile and Sergio Batista, current Technical Director of the Argentine team.

Afterwards, the Copa America Trophy Tour visited the cities of Santa Fe, San Juan, Córdoba and La Plata, all of which will be hosting the matches during the tournament.

During the following months, the Trophy Tour continued its journey, this time visiting several Latin American countries like Chile, Uruguay, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, and finally returning to Argentina in July to the opening of the tournament.

“We are very excited to be sponsoring Copa America Argentina 2011,” said Geraldine Cooper, Head of Sponsorships, MasterCard Latin America and Caribbean. “Not only is Argentina an important market for MasterCard, but it is a great destination that has some of the most passionate football fans in the world. MasterCard shares that passion and plans to utilize this sponsorship asset to bring the excitement of football to fans across the region – within and outside of Argentina.”

MasterCard has a long-standing relationship with international football and have continued this relationship by sponsoring premiere events, including the UEFA Champions League in Europe and CONCACAF Champions League in the Americas, as well as two leading Argentinean club teams.
